ARV - Working and Rest Times for Professional Drivers
The ARV 2 regulates working, driving, and rest times for professional drivers not covered by ARV 1, including their controls and employer obligations.
Light motor vehicles up to 3,500 kg for professional passenger transport (e.g., taxis) with up to 8 seats
Rental vehicles with chauffeur (limousine services)
Domestic transport — light minibuses (≤3,500 kg) and heavy vehicles (>3,500 kg) with up to 16 seats
Light, small, and three-wheeled motor vehicles for professional passenger transport & Heavy passenger vehicles (>3,500 kg) — large taxis, armored vehicles, VIP vehicles

Working Hours & Overtime
Driving Breaks & Rest Periods
Driving breaks and daily/weekly rest times must be respected according to the ordinance
Split rest periods are allowed under certain conditions — part of the rest can be taken before and part after driving
Weekly Maximum Working Hours
- Employees (e.g., minibus operators, no taxi): 48h per week
- Employees in taxi operations: 53h per week
- Self-employed professional drivers: Not regulated
Overtime Rules
- Maximum overtime per week: 4h
- Maximum overtime per calendar year: 208h
- Extra overtime in exceptional business needs (e.g., seasonal demand): 2h/week with employer notification to authorities
Overtime Compensation
- Normal cases: compensated within 3 months
- By agreement: compensated within 12 months
- Through time off or wage supplement according to the Swiss Code of Obligations
